General Motor’s financial misery is another man’s fortune as evidenced by the liquidation of some of their private automobile collection at the Barrett Jackson auto auction. We were particularly interested in a couple of their Pikes Peak racers.

Pratt & Miller, the builders of the Le Mans winning Chevrolet Corvette C5R and C6R was also responsible for designing the AWD Vortec GMC Envoy driven to victory in 2000 at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb by off-road racing legend Larry Ragland. The Herzog family, known for their NASCAR and off-road racing history, purchased the truck for only $57,200!

Larry Ragland was also present at the auction after his recent return from the Dakar Rally in Argentina. Ragland won the bid with $15,400 on another Pratt & Miller designed truck that he ran in the late ’90s at Pikes Peak. Apparently the truck was missing the transmission, but Larry has plans on getting the truck together for another attack on the monster mountain.
